International Day of Yoga 2022

In his speech at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on 27 September 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi first introduced the idea of setting aside a date for the observance of an International Day of Yoga. He made the point that 21 June coincides with the Summer Solstice and marks Dakshinayan, the start of the southern journey of the sun, and as such would be quite relevant to the practice of Yoga.
So on 11 December 2014, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN introduced the draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly which eventually received unanimous support from 177 Member States. From then on, Yoga has been publicly demonstrated and practiced in major cities of the world thus validating its physical, mental, and spiritual benefits.
Nivedita Academy expresses solidarity with the world in affirming the supremacy of Yoga as a potent tool in establishing harmony and peace.
